Monday, Week Four of Lent by Charlotte Whitaker
John 9:1-7
As he walked along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him. We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva and spread the mud on the man’s eyes, saying to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see.

Dad: Ok Charlotte, you've read John 9:1-7. What's it about?
Charlotte: It's about Jesus and a blind man. Jesus is out walking, he sees a blind man, the people around ask Jesus if blindness comes from sin, Jesus says No, then he makes some mud, tells the blind man to wash off the mud, and the blind man can see again.
Dad: Okay, what do you think about that?
Charlotte: Well, the blind man is disabled.
Dad: Hey, you're right, I hadn't thought about that.
Charlotte: So that means he's different, he's an outsider, and he's alone.
Dad: So why does that matter?
Charlotte: Well, it reminds us that Jesus takes care of the disabled people, and helps them, and brings them back among everyone.
Dad: Does Jesus do that now?
Charlotte: Well, no, he's not walking around, but I think the Holy Spirit sometimes comes and tells us how to heal our problems. So that's kind of the same.
Dad: I guess it is.
Charlotte: Like, you know, last week I was having trouble with my friend, and I prayed, and I made it all better. I saw how to fix the problem.
Dad: You sure did.
Charlotte: And she was feeling lonely and alone, and I helped her come back in again. Just like Jesus did.
Dad: You know, kiddo, you're so right. You've done a very good job. Anything else you want to say?
Charlotte: No, I'm good. Can I have some of your mocha?
