"4th Year Pledge" to the Good Soil Capital Campaign for 2021:
December 14, 2020
Dear St. Julian's Family:
We are writing to update you on our plans for the Good Soil Capital Campaign as we look to 2021. As we mentioned in our previous letter and in church in several forums, our Good Soil Capital Campaign comes to its “official” close at the end of the calendar year (December 31). For those who have already or will be completing your 3-year pledge to the campaign by that date, our wholehearted thanks for your generosity and commitment to our shared future. The Good Soil Campaign has been a resounding success raising nearly $400,000 dollars (in total commitments), which is what our Capital Campaign Consultants determined was the capacity of our community at the outset of this campaign. Further, the gifts you have made are already instrumental in doing all the work that is required to close on the 9-acre tract of land that we currently have under contract (closing is slated for mid-2021). By the time we close on the land, we will have a building permit, a master plan for the campus, and be well through construction drawings for our phase one building project. Your giving is making all of this possible.
It had been our intention to follow the Good Soil Campaign with a second "follow on" Capital Campaign this fall to begin to raise the funds for “bricks and mortar” construction. However, due to the pandemic, our leadership has chosen to delay any capital fund raising and focus on giving to our annual operating budget until we can once again gather in-person as a community of the whole (fall of 2021 at the earliest). Though this is a slower process than we hoped for, we do see an opportunity before us. Which is, as we have been describing it, the opportunity for people who have the ability to make an additional contribution or first time gift to the current Good Soil Capital Campaign for the coming year (2021). What we have been calling a “4th Year Pledge to Good Soil”. This could look like continuing any regular giving to the campaign through the coming year or, for those who have or will complete a 3-year pledge by year’s end, making an additional one-year pledge to the campaign. We also see this extra year as an opportunity for those who just could use some more time to complete their original Good Soil pledge to take another year to do so. Additionally, as noted, this is an opportunity for those who have not yet made a pledge to Good Soil or have joined our community after we launched this campaign to participate with a new one year pledge to the campaign.
In order to not confuse this “4th Year Pledge to Good Soil” with the commitments made to our annual campaign, we intentionally waited to complete our annual campaign, the “Season of Giving Thanks”, before sending this letter and asking for your consideration of additional giving to Good Soil. So, just to be as clear as possible, any additional giving to Good Soil in 2021 will be, in addition to, the commitments already made to the 2021 operating budget. In these uncertain times, we think it is more important than ever for people to consider their annual giving to the church before capital giving. As we have said before, any future building project becomes somewhat less relevant if we can’t keep the lights on in the year to come.
If you do find yourself in a place to make a “4th Year Pledge to Good Soil”, you can submit your pledge electronically at the following link. This pledge form is also available on the website, Facebook page, and in the weekly email. We ask that all commitments/pledges be made by January 31, 2021 and all gifts received by December 31, 2021. All dollars received in 2021 will place less pressure on future capital fundraising and allow us greater flexibility in phasing our future building project, which will all just get us to our new home more quickly and efficiently.
Thank you so much for your consideration. It is God’s faithfulness and your commitment and generosity that assures us that our brightest days still lie before us. If either of us can answer any questions or help you in discerning your own giving, please don’t hesitate to be in touch.
Peace and Warm Friendship,
