Fall 2020 Christian Ed Programs and Events Beginning after Labor Day Weekend:
Dear St. Julian's Family:
Though the Fall Semester will surely be unlike any other in our 11 years together, we are continuing our tradition of offering a robust Fall Program that includes weekly Christian Education for all ages, a "Season of Giving Thanks" (annual fall pledge drive), and many other of our regular gatherings for worship, fellowship, service, and learning (though primarily remaining online). Please read on for more information. And, knowing there is much to get through, please consider reading, at least, the bolded headlines to learn more about those items most relevant to you and yours.
Fall Christian Education/Spiritual Formation for All Ages:
Adult Spiritual Formation, "The Beatitudes: Blessings for Trying Times", Wednesday Evenings, 6:30-7:30 PM, beginning Sept 9 on Zoom:
From the on-going pandemic, to deep political division, to the difficult conversations that uncertainty and division create, we will explore together this fall the Beatitudes from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5), as a spiritual and biblical resource to help us navigate these trying times. Each evening will conclude with Compline. The class is led by our Theologian-in-Residence, Dr. Tony Baker, who, in addition to serving on the staff at St. Julian's, is the Clinton S. Quinn Professor of Systematic Theology at the Seminary of the Southwest. The Zoom link to join us each week is here (Meeting ID: 818-5681-3187). For questions, email Tony.
"Journey to Adulthood" Student/Youth Ministry (grades 6-12), Meeting Online Sunday Evenings, 5-6 PM, resuming Sept 13:
This weekly gathering for fun, friendship building, mutual support, and spiritual growth is led by our Student Minister, Jennifer Garen. All students and interested friends in grades 6-12 are warmly invited to join us at any time. For questions, log-in credentials, and to be added to our weekly Student E-Newsletter, email Jennifer.
Children's Ministry/Sunday School (Kinder-5th grade), "The Jesus Story Book Bible" and "Celebrate Wonder", Meeting Online Sunday Mornings, 10-10:45 AM, beginning Sept 13:
Our Children will meet each week on Zoom in two classes/age groups: kinder-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade. The Kinder-2nd grade class will be led by our Children's Minister, Jennifer Cowles, using the Jesus Story Book Bible curriculum, adapted for online use. This curriculum invites children to discover the One who is at the center of both the great stories found in the Bible and in the personal story of their own lives. The 3rd-5th grade class will be led by Jenny Warfield and Jen Philbrook using the "Celebrate Wonder" virtual curriculum. This curriculum engages children’s natural sense of curiosity to help them understand God’s love, while feeding their imagination and encouraging creativity. For log-in credentials and general questions, email Jennifer.
Other Ministries Beginning/Continuing this Fall:
A Fall Schedule for Mid-Week Online Prayer and Worship Each Wednesday, Beginning, Sept 9:
We are continuing the practice, begun during quarantine, of offering 2 mid-week prayer services. However, we are adjusting the schedule with the resumption of school. In place of Morning Prayer, we will be offering Noonday Prayer at 12 PM on Facebook Live, which will last about 10 minutes. And, we will continue to offer Compline at about 7:30 PM, but it will now be on Zoom at the conclusion of our Adult Spiritual Formation Program Wed evenings (see above). The class will begin at 6:30 PM (link here). For questions, email Miles.

"Wellness for Parents in the Midst of COVID-19", Living Compass Small Groups, Tuesdays, Sept 15, 22 and 29 at Noon or 8 PM:
This 3 session small group meeting is for all who parent, meaning all adults who play a primary role in a child’s life. The gatherings are intended to help us consider how our heart, soul, strength and mind can respond to these challenging times in healthy, life-giving ways and, further, inspire creativity in parenting. Sessions will be held via Zoom, and participants choose either the noon or 8 PM group (not both). To register or if you have questions, please email Patty, our Living Compass Coordinator.
"Dreamcatchers", St. Julian's Adult Fellowship, Meets Every Other Week, Saturdays at 6 PM on Zoom:
All adults and interested friends are invited to join us for a time of fellowship, friendship building, and mutual support every other week (next meeting is Sunday, Sept 6). Save the Date for Other Fall Gatherings/Events:
Good Soil Capital Campaign Event, Sunday, Sept 27, 12:30-1:30 PM on Zoom:
Please join us following the 11 AM Online Service (during Virtual Coffee Hour) on Sept 27 to hear the latest updates on Good Soil, land for our permanent campus, and future capital fundraising efforts. Whether you are participating in the current Good Soil Capital Campaign or not, everyone in our family of faith is invited to join this gathering to dream together about the hopeful and exciting future before St. Julian's. The link to participate is here (Meeting ID: 454-165-4703), and for questions, email Miles.
"Blessing of the Animals" in Honor of St. Francis' Feast Day, Sunday, Oct 4:
There will be two ways to participate in our "Blessing of the Animals" this fall. First, you are invited to send a picture of your beloved pet/s to Miles for a slide show that will be shown at the regular 11 AM Online Morning Prayer Service on Oct 4. We will be offering prayers during the service for all of our animal friends. Second, we will be providing individual, in-person blessings, also on Oct 4, for pets and their human companions between 1 and 2 PM at Pepper Rock Park (8609 Pepper Rock Park Drive, 78717). We will be practicing social distancing and require masks for those who come for an in-person blessing. For questions or to send pics (by Sept 29), email Miles.
In-Gathering Sunday, Nov 15, One Online Service at 9:30 AM:
We will, once again, begin our "Season of Giving Thanks" this October when we invite all in our community to prayerfully consider making a pledge of time, talent and financial resources to further our shared ministry in the year to come. We ask that pledges be submitted this year on or before In-Gathering Sunday online, in-person, or through the mail (more info forthcoming). We will be celebrating all those gifts as one family in one online service at 9:30 AM (that Sunday only). We hope to follow the service that day at 11:30 AM with a socially distanced, bring-your-own-picnic at Brushy Creek Lake Park to celebrate together all the good work that God in Christ is doing among us (3300 Brushy Creek Road, 78613). The park is across the street from the land we have under contract for our future permanent campus. However, the ability for the picnic to proceed will be determined by the COVID metrics that we are following closely, and we will communicate more about this opportunity later in the fall. For questions, email Richard Garen, our Stewardship Ministry Leader.
Though there is much to consider and be excited about listed above, this is not an exhaustive list of all we have planned for this fall. Even in these difficult days, we push forward with hope into our future together, knowing that the God of love desires for us greater than we can ever ask or imagine.
If you have any questions about our Fall Programs/Events or anything in our shared life, please do reach out at the link below. I hope this reaches you and yours as healthy and well as possible.
