Registering to Join In-person Worship:
June 14, 2020
Dear St. Julian’s Family:
As I have previously written, we are targeting July 19 for limited in-person Sunday worship, one service at 11 AM. The service will include Children's Chapel (3-year-olds through 3rd graders), but the nursery will be closed. Infants and toddlers, as always, are warmly welcome in church, and we will have single-use goody bags available to keep their hands busy each week. The service will also be live-streamed from church each Sunday for everyone else to join us as well. Whether in-person or online, you are fully present and we are grateful to have you! As I have written, we honor everyone's very personal choice about the right time to return to in-person worship for you and yours. Whenever you return and however you join us, I want to say to you, "God bless you! We are blessed to have you as a part of our family of faith."
Today, I am writing to invite you into a time of important personal prayerful discernment around whether you and your family feel ready to join us for our first cycle of in-person worship. I say first cycle as our plan is to take all those interested in rejoining in-person worship beginning July 19 and cycle them through consecutive Sundays until all have attended once. How many Sundays that will be is determined by how many people want to be in cycle one, as only 31 people can be in church at a time per CDC and state guidelines. After all those in cycle one have had a chance to attend one Sunday, we will open up cycle two, in which, those who participated in cycle one can continue, if they so choose, and those who did not participate in cycle one can join in. We will then follow this process throughout Phase Two of re-opening (likely well into the fall). What might change within Phase Two is the number of people that are allowed in church at one time and the number of services we hold each Sunday. Of course, as these increase, that just means those who want to be present will cycle through much more quickly and, thus, be present in-person much more often.
I do have an important caveat. Though our reopening plan has been approved by the Diocese (to review it, click here), we are continuing to watch new infection rates (among other metrics) that are determinative for re-opening. Which is to say, that it is possible that we are not able to hold to July 19. However, the plan will not change just the first Sunday of in-person worship will change, and we will communicate any adjustments.
So, after you have had a chance to prayerfully consider with your own family if you would like to be a part of cycle one, we ask that everyone complete and submit the google form linked here. We are asking that every family at St. Julian's complete the form whether or not you intend to participate in cycle one, as it also asks important questions about future participation. If you are a family rather than individual completing the form, it will allow you to let us know who within your family would like to attend and let us know of any dates that you know you will not be available in the near term. Then as equitably and pastorally as possible, using the information you submit, we will be dividing up all those who respond into our first cycle. You will be contacted with your date and asked to formally RSVP, which helps with setting the space in the church each week and doing contract tracing if that were necessary.
We ask that forms for those interested in cycle one be submitted by Sunday, July 5 (3 weeks from today). If you have any questions about the process, form or otherwise, please email Bea Smith our Bishop Warden. I hope this reaches you well. I so look forward to seeing all of you faces over time. I miss you more than words.
