March 15, 2020

Dear St. Julian's Family:

This note will take the place of our regular weekly email. However, we do ask that you pay close attention to any additional notifications/emails from the church as, of course, things remain fluid. A continued thanks for your patience and attention.

During this time when we are practicing social distancing, we want to share with you a list of resources for you and your family to use in your home for worship and spiritual growth. As I said in our live streamed Sunday service (recording here), I hope we will see the tables in our own homes as extensions of our altar in church. Remembering that our homes are, also, sacred spaces and God can be worshiped, experienced, and known in any and every place we find ourselves.

For those who are home with others, I hope that you are using this experience as a gift of time to fall more and more in love with those closest to you (break out the board games and heat up your tea kettles!). For those practicing social distancing alone, please reach out if you need to chat. We are your family and want to be present for you. And for all of us, I hope we will use some of this time spent at home to, as our vision statement reads, seek intimacy with God in Christ. Doing so fights the understandable experience of anxiety in these uncertain times. Doing so connects us to the true source of hope and healing in our world, God's inexhaustible love. And, doing so connects us to one another, as we keep each other lifted up in prayer.

In addition to the resources below, we will be offering Compline and other prayers services live on our Facebook page from time to time over the coming weeks. We will be sending more information about that in a separate email/post. And, of course, we will all be back together next Sunday for worship at 11 AM also at our Facebook page.

Most of all remember to reach out if you are feeling sad, scared or lonely...or just want to talk...or need anything...with all our love!

Peace and Warm Friendship,

Worship and Formation Resources:

The On-Line Book of Common Prayer

The Daily Devotions for Individuals/Families which are found at The Daily Office Link are particularly accessible for worship at home around the table. Also the Prayers and Thanksgivings link have some wonderful prayers for all sorts of occasions.

Daily Prayer by Forward Movement

This is on-line Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline that you can follow along as an individual or use to lead any of these services with others. They include the scripture readings for the day.

The Lectionary Page

This website includes the Sunday scripture readings and readings for Feast Days (commemorations of saints). It is also has links to the daily office readings for each day of the week. This is a great source for just some good old fashion bible study or for worship.

Faith @ Home

This website provides formation and reflection activities for families or individuals based on the Sunday scripture readings for use with all ages.

Building Faith

This is a website hosted by Virginia Theological Seminary (Miles' alma mater) that provides articles, activities and an on-line bookstore full of digital and print resources.

Living Compass: Living Well through Lent

To subscribe to a daily Lenten Reflection to be delivered via email visit this website and scroll down a bit to the registration link. This is the electronic version of the paper booklet we handed out at the beginning of Lent in church.

If you have other suggestions, please feel free to post them to our Facebook page, where we will see you in worship again next Sunday at 11 AM. We appreciate each of you and prayers for all continue!
