2023 Pilgrimage to Navajoland, June 17-24, Registration Open:
St. Julian's will be returning to our friends in Navajoland this June (Farmington, NM). Everyone at St. Julian's, including all ages and interested friends, are invited to travel with us. We call this annual event a pilgrimage, as our principle intention in traveling is to encounter God in fresh and transformative ways among a people and place very different from ourselves (though we have come to know them well over the years!).
Our work project this year is to build shade structures for outdoor gatherings and markets at St. Michael's in Upper Fruitland. We will also have much time to break bread with our Navajo friends, visit important historical sites, and build deeper connections among those with whom we travel from our own family of faith. We will travel by van and stay in hotels while on the road. While in Navajoland, we will be staying in their Hospitality House in shared dormitories. The cost of the trip is $500 for an individual or $950 for a family of 2 or more. Most costs are included (room, board, travel and local excursions) with the exception of food while on the road, an occasional ice cream shop, and any other souvenirs collected along the way. Financial assistance is available by contacting our Vicar, Miles, directly or can be noted on the signup form. We are able to make arrangements for those who would be more comfortable sleeping at a local hotel rather than the Hospitality House, but that will require additional costs (about $500 for double occupancy for 5 nights).
Our relationship with the people of Navajoland has deeply shaped who we are as a family of faith. There is no way to recreate the sort of community building this sort of experience provides. To this end, we strongly encourage you to consider joining this unique, one of a kind, life-changing experience. You can travel as an individual, as a family (we have had toddlers before!), or teens are welcome to join us without parents with their approval and the completion of required permission forms.
Deadline to register is June 1, 2023 (or until the trip fills). To signup, complete the form linked here. For general questions, email Miles. Those not traveling with us will have opportunities to participate through donating toward the work project, prayers, and a celebration once we return with pics and stories.
If you have any questions about our Navajoland Pilgrimage or anything in our shared life, feel free, as always, to reach out at any time. I hope this reaches you and yours as well as possible.
Peace and Warm Friendship,
Miles+
