Demery St Js

On July 1, the Rev. Demery Bader-Saye will begin her first official day in her new role as Associate Vicar of St. Julian's. Though not at all new to our church, as she and her family have worshiped with us from our first days in Henry Middle School some 15 years ago, I asked her to provide a brief bio, which is just below. Please read on and join me in offering her a hearty welcome as you see her leading the way in the coming weeks.

"The Rev. Demery Bader-Saye first joined St. Julian's staff as an assisting priest in 2017, preaching monthly and assisting with our Outreach Ministry from time to time. In addition to serving at St. Julian's, for the last fifteen years Demery has worked full time at NYOS (Public) Charter School, serving as a second and third grade teacher and, more recently, on the NYOS Leadership Team as an Instructional Coach. This year Demery will continue half time in her role at NYOS and will serve on our staff half time as well.

Prior to teaching, Demery served as the Missioner for Youth for the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem, PA for five years, as an associate priest at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Glenburn, PA for four years, and as the sole pastor of Trinity Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Scranton, PA for three years. Demery holds a bachelor's degree in sociology, with an emphasis in family studies, from the University of Northern Colorado. She graduated summa cum laude from Duke Divinity School in 1997 and completed a two year Episcopal training program in the Diocese of Bethlehem. She was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church in March of 2004 and as a priest in October of 2004.

In her free time, Demery loves spending time with her family, traveling, long walks in cool weather, reading and writing fiction. She is so excited for this new chapter with her St. Julian's family."

Though Demery will be half-time, our goal is to increase her position to full time as quickly as financially possible. Demery will continue to preach regularly, lead worship, provide pastoral care, and offer clergy support to our Youth, Women's, and Outreach Ministries, among other areas of responsibility.

I am so grateful that Demery has accepted this new call to serve our beloved community and am so excited to see how God continues to use her gifts to help shape us more and more into the people God has called us to be and become.

Demery's new St. Julian's email address is: dbadersaye@stjuliansaustin.org. I know she would love to hear from you and is ready to be present with you as you seek to grow in your own faith.

If you have any questions about Demery's new position or anything in our shared life, please don't hesitate to reach out. I hope this reaches you and yours well!

Peace and Warm Friendship,

Miles+

The Rev. Miles R. Brandon, II, Vicar
