Children's Minister: Jennifer Cowles

Programs for Children

Nursery Care (infants to 3-year-olds) is available each Sunday during both worship services and the Christian Education hour. The Nursery is located near the front entrance to the church.

Children's Chapel (ages 3-3rd grade) is offered at both the 9:00 and 11:00 services during the Liturgy of the Word (between the Gospel hymn and the Peace). Children's Chapel mirrors the prayers, songs and teaching in "big" church with attention given to language and themes appropriate for children. Chapel is led by our Lay Ministries Coordinator, Jennifer Cowles, with assistance from community volunteers. If you are interested in serving as an assistant for one Sunday or more, click here or email Jennifer.

Junior Altar Guild (ages 3 and up) This beautiful program formed organically when our Altar Guild chair embraced kids' natural curiosity and invited children to help her prepare the altar for Holy Communion each week. As far as we know, the Junior Altar Guild is unique to St. Julian's!

Programs for Children and Youth

Christian Education

Godly Play (Pre-School through Kindergarten) invites children into Holy Scripture and the rituals/themes of the church through story, wonder and self-guided play (with the support of their teachers). Class meets in the Gold Room.

1st-3rd graders explore the Jesus Storybook Bible curriculum, which includes stories from the Old and New Testaments and storytelling, video, song and directed activities/crafts. Class meets in the Red Room.

4th-6th graders take part in the Deep Blue curriculum, an awe-inspiring and comprehensive Bible study that helps children discover what it means to be a disciple of Christ today. Class meets in the Green Room.

7th-12th graders delve into the Attitude: Changing the World series. This curriculum published by the Episcopal Church explores how our life as Christians informs and nurtures our attitudes around a range of topics that impact the lives of our young adults. Topics include violence, addiction, television and other social issues. Class meets in the Blue Room.

Our Youth Group meets on most Sunday evenings during the school year from 5:00-7:00 for dinner and to work with the Journey to Adulthood (J2A) curriculum. The program also prepares students for Confirmation and includes an out of state, week-long pilgrimage about every two years. In addition to the spiritual formation that happens on Sunday evenings, there are regular events for fun and fellowship scheduled throughout the year.

Special Events

Christmas Eve Pageant -- all kids are welcome! Costumes provided. A few parts are assigned and require a rehearsal, but every child who comes can join in as an angel or shepherd as we reenact the birth of our Savior.

St. Julian's Day Bible Presentation -- We celebrate our patron saint's feast day on Mother's Day Sunday with a big party! During the worship service, we also recognize our third graders graduating from Children’s Chapel with a Bible presentation.

Vacation Bible School -- in June or July each summer
